The American consitution is a landmark in terms of personal liberties. Its guarantees, written over two hundreds of years ago, showed remarkable foresight for their era. But activists and lobby groups continue to try to derive us of one of our basic freedoms, as if the Constitution didn't exist. And I hope that our elected officials and our Attorney General can uphold our rights.

Government regulation remains the biggest issue. The government insists on requiring that owners obtain licenses before being able to use one. They say this is for "safety", but the truth is thinly veiled. The government just wants to keep track of who owns one – complete with names, addresses, and photographs – so that when the dictatorship comes about, the jackbooted thugs will know exactly where to go to seize them all and put them in the government's hands. This is outrageous, all the more so when you consider that most Americans can't even see the Big Brother lurking behind the government strictures – can't see that owning one away from government eyes is how we safeguard our freedoms against tyranny. Thank God there's a few who recognize these regulations as the same kind of controls that the Nazis used.

The lobbyists have enacted other "safety" measures, too. For instance, if you're caught committing a major crime with one, many states now prevent you from using one in the future. Where is our liberty? Our Founding Fathers did not give us "limited rights under certain circumstances"! America's greatness is due to the freedoms granted its people – unequivocal freedoms.

The lobbyists say that these regulations "saves lives", that without it, unsafe or untrained people would be causing deaths. But there are deaths with the regulations! Has all the government red tape reduced the deaths to zero? Of course not. There are simply inherent dangers involved, and it's up to private citizens, not the government, to learn how to avoid those dangers.

"Licenses" and governmental registration are a sham and an oppressive control. As Americans, we have the right to own one, and to use one, whenever we want, with no government interference.

That's why I favor the abolition of the DMV and license plates. Any American should be able to drive a car without any so-called "driver's test" or vehicle registration whatsoever. Call me paranoid, but these are just Big Brother trying to track car owners so it can monitor and seize their cars. The government has no right trying to enforce "safety" when Americans want to own or use a dangerous device that can kill other people instantly. It's what the Founding Fathers would have wanted.
